"I’m not sure how to put into words just how scrumptious the pies are at Petee’s. But, to put things plainly their motto is to make “damn fine pie for damn fine people, creating the best pie, money can buy” and I definitely have no arguments there! Their founder Petra “Petee” Paredez grew up learning the ropes of pie-making in her parents’ well-known bakery “Mom’s Apple Pie Company” in Virginia, before moving to New York and seizing the opportunity to open her very own pie shop in the Lower East Side. She started out using the recipes which she’d mastered in her hometown and soon transformed them into her own signature creations, earning her a faithful following of pie feasting fanatics. The tiny bakery is packed with deliciousness and that heavenly smell of freshly baking pies in the oven, as they produce all of their goods in the back of the shop. Their offerings change with the seasons, but you will always find their ‘classics’ available including some of my favourites: Hudson Valley Apple Pie and Wild Blueberry. Everything is made using fresh local produce, organic wheat, grass-fed butter and natural fair-trade sweeteners. There is limited counter seating but if you are lucky enough to go when it’s quiet, I feel like you can’t get closer to perfection than sat in the window with a big slice of their wholesome apple pie and a feel-good coffee to sweeten up your day. Exceptional flavours, extra velvety textures and irresistibly sweet fillings makes Petee’s in my opinion hands down the premier pie maker of New York City."
