"Absolutely beautiful temple and grounds. The buildings are in beautiful condition and lovingly maintained.
The aqueduct is visually stunning and the sound of the running water is very soothing. You can climb to the top to see it is still in use.
Beautiful hiking trails loop out from the grounds up into the forest and mountains. Fairly easy hike as long as you don't mind some stairs. I didn't see the monkeys but they do make an occasional appearance.
** Note that the zen garden and inside the buildings close at 5pm. You can still tour the grounds if you miss it though.
I took the bus and it was an uphill walk but only about 6 minutes through a very quiet and classic Japanese street."
