"MUD aka Mudspot is the sister of The Mudtruck, which was the first original speciality street vendor in New York. They serve all-day brunch, killer coffee and seasonal craft beers, all in their lively hangout in the East Village. Low in cash in the early 2000’s husband and wife duo, Nina and Greg Northrop started out selling their trademark blend of coffee from a bright orange street truck. Named after what Greg’s Italian grandmother used to call her coffee mud, the Mudtruck soon became a huge success with East Village locals and they opened their first bricks and mortar café on E 9th Street. Mudspot is my perfect place to brunch, offering an extensive menu which is sure to hit the spot with something for everyone. Their world kitchen style and quality ingredients create stunning stand-out dishes including their well-constructed Mud burrito, huevos rancheros, any-style eggs and buttermilk pancakes. Plus, I believe they roast some of the best coffee you will find in NYC and it’s served in a huge handmade mug. The tiny café packs a big punch of character, with its neighbourhood atmosphere and its secret garden in the back, where all the locals like to catch-up. A small family run business with a grassroots approach to keeping things local and their powerful anti-establishment ethos has earned them a cult following of hardcore coffee enthusiasts, with me included."
