The museum is housed in the Convento dei Frati Cappuccini (Convent of the Capuchin Friars), which was founded in 1626. The crypt is located beneath the church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini.
The museum contains a collection of religious artifacts, including paintings, sculptures, and vestments. The crypt is the most famous part of the museum and is decorated with the bones of over 4,000 Capuchin friars. "The Capuchin Crypt, located beneath the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini in Rome, Italy, is an extraordinary and macabre site that holds a fascinating historical significance. It was established in the 17th century as a burial place for Capuchin friars.
What makes the Capuchin Crypt truly unique and haunting is its decoration. The walls and ceilings of the crypt are adorned with the bones of over 4,000 deceased Capuchin friars. These bones have been carefully arranged in intricate patterns and designs, creating a mesmerizing display of skeletal art.

"This is a MUST visit in my book. It is so unique and I doubt you'll find another museum like it.
In this church there are several crypts designed completely with human bones. All of the decoration from the floor to the ceiling, including the lamps, are made with the bones of the monks who worked in the church.
For some people this might be too much, but I was amazed at the detail. I felt very calm and meditative, just looking in wonder at the crypts. I would 100% suggest this if you are okay with some macabre vibes."
