"The former Hospital of the Five Wounds of Our Redeemer, also known as the Hospital of the Blood, is a 16th-century building located in the Ronda Histórica in the Macarena neighborhood of Seville and currently the headquarters of the Parliament of Andalusia and the Chamber of Accounts of Andalusia.
The Hospital was founded by Catalina de Ribera y Mendoza in 1500, as a hospital for women.1 It was endowed with a large patrimony, given in donations, and for its constitution two bulls of Pope Alexander VI were granted, in 1500 and 1502. It also obtained the bulls of Clement VII and Julius III in 1524 and 1549 to be exempt from ordinary jurisdiction. Catalina de Ribera requested the bull of Alexander VI so that only women were treated, but the bull of Clement VII of 1524 extended it to poor men. It only had medical functions, although from 1750 onwards part of it was used as a hospice.
The building functioned as a hospital until 1972. After years of abandonment, in 1986 the plans were drawn up for its conversion into the seat of the Parliament of Andalusia, and it was inaugurated on 28 February (Andalusia Day) in 1992. The total restoration of the building was completed in 2003, with the conclusion of the restoration work on the courtyards and rooms that had not been undertaken in the first phase during the 1980s."
