"The garden is located in the heart of the city of Funchal, in the parish of Sé, and was inaugurated in 1885.
With an area of 8,300 m2, it is currently located on the site of the former Convent of São Francisco, which, later in ruins, was still used as a hospital, barracks, court and asylum until the construction of the garden. Among other things, it is possible to find a pond with fountains and a marble sculpture, commonly known as “Meninos”, by António Maria Ribeiro (1943), as well as some works of art scattered around the flowerbeds richly decorated with enchanting flowers from the four corners of the world."
