"Take a trip south of Copenhagen to the seaside art museum, ARKEN Museum of Modern Art.
Arken is a Museum of Contemporary Art and its maritime-inspired architecture has gained the museum international praise.
The museum came about when a young architecture student won a design competition with a Deconstructivist museum, which resembled a giant beached ship and was constructed in 1996. ARKEN is translated to “The Ark” like The Ark of the Covenant. Deconstructivism takes recognisable shapes and split them making them overlapped and combined in new ways. That is ARKEN The idea was for the museum to be located on an island like a shipwreck, and this became a reality after new funds in 2016, and is now called the art island.

"It’s well worth catching a train to the coastal town of Ishøj, just 20km south of Copenhagen, to visit this cultural and architectural gem."
