What people say

"The history of flamenco zambras in Granada is rich and deep, beginning with the innovations of Antonio Torcuato “Cujón” and consolidating in Sacromonte with the Zambra de los Amayas. Manuel Amaya Hidalgo, known as “Manolo Amaya”, was a key figure in the diffusion of flamenco, performing at international events and collaborating with great names in flamenco. His legacy includes extensive involvement in film and documentaries, as well as being co-founder of the Cofradía del “Cristo de los Gitanos”. His influence on Granada’s gypsy music, dance and culture is undeniable and continues to be celebrated after his death in 1977. In 2001, Sensi Amaya revitalised the “Reina Mora”, renaming it “Tablao Flamenco Albayzín” and modernising its programming whilst maintaining the traditional roots of flamenco. In 2017, he expanded his vision to Málaga with the “Tablao Los Amayas”. In 2024, José and Manuel Amaya reopened the historic Cueva de los Amayas in Sacromonte, offering an authentic flamenco experience without amplification or elaborate stages, highlighting the intimate connection between artists and audience. This initiative has revitalised the Granada zambra, ensuring that the Amayas’ legacy continues to inspire future generations and preserve the magic of flamenco in its most traditional setting."
