"Múlagljúfur Canyon, sometimes referred to as Mulagljufur or Múli Canyon, is a hidden gem tucked away in southern Iceland . This dramatic canyon, carved by glacial runoff over millennia, boasts towering cliffs, a cascading waterfall, and a unique serpentine path.
Múlagljúfur Canyon remained relatively unknown for years, a secret cherished by a few. In recent times, however, its fame has begun to spread, attracting travelers seeking off-the-beaten-path adventures. The canyon's remoteness adds to its allure, offering a chance to experience the raw beauty of Icelandic nature in a less crowded setting.
The story of Múlagljúfur Canyon began around 9,000 years ago when an ice cap blanketed the area. Meltwater from this ancient ice relentlessly carved its way through the soft rock, creating the dramatic cliffs and the sinuous path of the Múlagljúfur River that flows through the canyon floor today."

"3. stop (hidden gem)
– not so visited, but still a stunning canyon
- the turnoff to this canyon is not marked and there is a dirt road (but nothing that a normal car can't handle) towards the beginning of the hike
- from the parking lot, you can reach the first views of the canyon by going uphill
- this is where most of the tourists are and it takes approx. 30 minutes/45 minutes
- however, we recommend hiking up to the highest point, from where the canyon will appear also a little diferently
- the hike to this point can take 1 hour/1 hour and 20 minutes. It's a truly remarkable canyon and you shouldn't miss it!
-the amazing Hangandifoss and Múlafoss waterfalls are also waiting for you here."

"The Múlagljúfur Canyon is an absolute must see when you're exploring southern Iceland. At the heart of this canyon lies the breathtaking Hangandifoss waterfall, which happens to be one of the tallest in the entire country. On clear days, you'll even catch a glimpse of the vast Vatnajökull ice cap in the distance.
To reach it, you'll need to take off from the main road number 1 onto a small dirt road. It's worth noting that this track might not be in the best condition, so it's highly recommended to use a 4x4 vehicle."
