Benedictine Church of Saint Nicholas

"Its origins date back to the 15th century, making it one of the older churches in Kaunas. Standing out from many Lithuanian churches, the Benedictine Church of Saint Nicholas boasts a striking Gothic architectural style. This style, characterized by pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and stained glass windows, is less common in Lithuania compared to Baroque architecture. The church's design also features an asymmetrical plan, adding to its distinctive character and setting it apart from more symmetrical buildings. Originally, the church was built as part of a Benedictine monastery complex. The Benedictine nuns who resided there used the church for their religious services. Following the Soviet era, the Benedictine nuns returned to the monastery, and the church remains an active Roman Catholic church today."
