Theatre Square

"Nestled amidst charming streets and historical buildings, the square acts as a central meeting point and a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The square's most prominent feature is the Klaipėda Drama Theatre, a magnificent neoclassical building constructed in the 19th century. It's a major cultural institution, and its red-brick facade and architectural details are a sight to behold. In the center of the square, you'll find a beautiful fountain featuring a statue of a young barefoot girl named Tarava Anikė, also known as Annchen von Tharau. This sculpture pays homage to a famous poem by the 17th-century Prussian poet Simon Dach, who was born in Klaipėda. The poem's title translates to "Ännchen of Tharau" and the story behind it adds a touch of romance to the square's atmosphere."
