"Balos is famous for its turquoise waters, wild natural beauty, and beautiful exotic scenery. The lagoon of Balos has white sand and exotic white, vivid blue, and turquoise waters. The sea is very shallow and warm, ideal for young children. In many places, the sand has a lovely pinkish color, because of millions of crushed shells. Beyond the rocks at the boundaries of the lagoon, the water is deeper and colder, ideal for snorkeling. The lagoon and the wider area, with rare species of flora and fauna, are protected under the Natura 2000 program. Eleonora falcons, shags, and cormorants nest in the caves of the area. Moreover, the area is a shelter for the protected monk seal and the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta). 💡Fun fact: Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited Balos on their private yacht many years ago. ⭐️ Amenities: sunbeds and umbrellas, snack bar, parking lot Accessibility: By road and a 20-minute hike or 90-minute boat ride from Kissamos 💶 Ferry fee"
"Balos Beach, also known as Balos Lagoon, is a renowned destination on the northwest coast of Crete, Greece. It is celebrated for its stunning beauty, featuring turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and unique geological formations. Accessible by car and a short hike or by boat from Kissamos, the beach offers a lagoon-like environment with shallow waters and sandbars. Due to its popularity, it's recommended to visit early to fully appreciate the tranquility and natural allure of Balos Beach."
"Balos Beach is about an hour from Chania and it just beautiful with touquise waters and great views. I would recommend renting a car and driving up to Balos Beach and spending a day or half a day there. You can also take a taxi there. Another option is you can book a tour that includes a bus ride to Balos Beach and the Gramvousa island. "
