"The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, inspired by the shape of an open book on a lectern, is an architectural and cultural landmark in Dubai. This seven-story library spans 650,000 square feet and serves as one of the UAE's largest cultural projects, with a construction cost of AED1 billion. Key features include a conference center, exhibition spaces, specialized reading halls, children’s and business libraries, and a basement parking area with capacity for around a thousand cars. The library houses between 300,000 and 400,000 open-access volumes and has state-of-the-art book-handling and information systems. Designed by a consortium of German and Emirati firms, the project was completed by ASGC Construction, a prominent Dubai-based company. Structural design contributions came from S.A. MIRO, INC., ensuring the foundation's stability in Dubai's challenging soil.
Announced in 2016, during Dubai's "Year of Reading," the library was intended to symbolize knowledge and cultural preservation. Officially opened to the public on June 16, 2022, it is expected to welcome approximately 9 million visitors annually. Within the library, eight specialized collections span topics including Arabic literature, international publications, media, youth and children’s resources, and the notable Al Maktoum Collection. A conservation center focuses on preserving rare books and manuscripts, while a Civilization Museum and Arab Heritage Museum promote heritage awareness.
The library offers over 4.5 million print, digital, and audio books, and integrates modern technology for research support. Visitors can enjoy a 500-seat theater for cultural events and lectures, alongside an array of intellectual and cultural events held yearly. The facility also has convenient access from the Creek Metro Station on the Green Line, with a shaded pathway under construction to link it to the library, enhancing accessibility for all."
