What people say

"The pyramids of Guimar are 5-level stepped rectangular buildings very similar to the Mayan pyramids or the pyramids of the Aztecs. These constructions are located not far from the eastern coast of Tenerife, near the town of Guimar from which they take their name, and were discovered only in 1991 by the Norwegian anthropologist Thor Heyerdahl. The 6 pyramids of Guimar, which were once 9 but 3 structures were dismembered to use their blocks of volcanic origin as building material, have been part of an ethnological park of 65 thousand square meters open to the public since 1998. The structures have an astronomical orientation and all have a staircase on the western side from which it is possible to follow the sun on the winter solstice. The park also houses the Casa Chacona museum where reproductions of indigenous masks and ceramic objects found during excavations are on display. The age of the pyramids has not yet been established but according to what Pliny the Elder narrated, the Canary Islands were uninhabited in 600 BC. but they guarded the ruins of great buildings. However, researchers have concluded that the pyramids were built in the second half of the 19th century for agricultural purposes. These pyramids represent a real mystery, perhaps more than the Egyptian pyramids. No one has yet managed to find an explanation of their usefulness, but above all no one can understand who they were built by. 👣How to get there: by car via the TF-21, bus line 121 (stop:Piramides). 🎟️Ticket cost: full price 12,50€-reduced price 6€. Free entry for children under 7 years old. "
