NKYINKYIM MUSEUM

"The Nkyinkyim (pronounced "chinchin") Museum in Ada is a powerful and moving experience. This contemporary art complex was created by renowned Ghanaian artist Kwame Akoto Bamfo, and it’s as amazing as it is intense. The museum dives deep into African history, particularly the history of slavery, bringing it to life in a way that textbooks just can’t. But it’s not all heavy—there are also powerful tributes to African freedom, accomplishments, leaders, and success. The full tour takes about 90 minutes and involves a good bit of walking, but if you're short on time (or energy), there’s a shorter version available. Heads up: the museum is way off the main road. The turn-off is well marked, but be prepared for a 20-25 minute drive down a bumpy dirt road. And don’t trust Google Maps when it suggests turning down a tiny path—stick to the main road until you hit the village, then turn left or ask a local for directions. Once you arrive, though, it’s impossible to miss."
