"Let’s travel back to the first half of the 19th century, when a wealthy merchant from Funchal, J. Howard March, decided to build a farm, named ‘Quinta Magnólia’, in the noble Lido area. The property, which has since been owned by several owners, was eventually acquired by the Regional Government in 1980. Today, the Quinta Magnólia Garden, whose elegance is undeniable, is open to the public.
This green space, which occupies an area of around 35,000 m², displays a wide range of botanical species from all corners of the world. Taking advantage of Funchal’s characteristic subtropical climate, these exotic trees and plants are in full bloom all year round.
The Quinta Magnólia Garden has undergone extensive renovations, which have affected both the outdoor and garden areas and the main building, the “mother house”, as well as the sports facilities. The tennis courts, squash court and fitness circuit were remodelled, and three paddle tennis courts and support areas for various activities were also created.
In addition, the Quinta Magnólia Garden now has a children's playground, a new restaurant/bar and a temporary exhibition room, integrated into the “main house”."

"Quinta Magnolia Park has a pretty interesting history. Originally a private estate, it dates back to the late 19th century and was owned by an English merchant named William Reid. The estate was famous for its gorgeous gardens and magnolia trees, which is how it got its name.
In the 1960s, the estate was turned into a public park, and since then, it's been a peaceful place for both locals and visitors. You can take a nice stroll through the lush gardens, enjoy views of Funchal, and soak up the old-school vibe of this once-private spot. The park still has that original charm, with its layout and trees making it feel special."
