"The Praza da Constitución has been the centre of life in La Coruña since it was established as a market in the 19th century. The origin of the square dates back to medieval times, when it served as a meeting place for the city's inhabitants, and it was given various names over the centuries, such as Plaza Vieja or Plaza Mayor.
However, it was not until after the Spanish Constitution of 1812 that this area acquired its current name, Praza da Constitución, in honour of one of Spain's most significant historical events. Today, remnants of these earlier periods can still be seen scattered around the square, including traditional Galician architecture and cobbled streets that recall its historic past."
