My SIL, her husband, and their two boys live in West Harlem so I have been out a couple times with my kiddos to visit. Here is my 24 hour itinerary in the big apple with my little travel buddy, Blake (my 4 yo best dude) for our most recent trip. We flew in late Friday night, explored all day Saturday, then Sunday was a day of indoor play for the boys. Follow along the map for our exact route and how we made the most out of our short time in the city. 

We took the train from uptown to Central Park, traveling on foot from there until just before taking the train from Grand Central to the ferry in the evening and then back home.

This museum is HUGE and you an think that you’d need at least half day to spend, but that’s not the case.

1. Know the closing time
The Met is open everyday, and on Friday and Saturday night it's open until 9 pm! So you can pay a visit on a Friday night, after 7pm, when everybody else is gettin drunk and tgif-ing.

2. Focus on an era or sections

The Met museum is filled with master works of art. You could spend 2 hours, 2 days, or 2 weeks and you still wouldn’t see it all. But definitely soak in what you can on each visit. Fun fact: if you’re a student or NYC resident, the cost is pay what you wish. 

If you’re not feeling the art museum vibes today, try bringing a book and a coffee to read on the famous Met steps. You’re bound to have excellent people watching and feel like you’re in the thick of NYC.

The MET is one of the largest museums in the world. Technically, it sits within Central Park, although its entrance faces 5th Avenue.

The building itself is worth seeing and they always have worthwhile exhibits besides its permanent collection. Get tickets ahead of time as it gets booked and crowded.
