Dedicated to the history of the island at large - specifically the once thriving whaling industry found along the coast in Massachusetts - the Whaling Museum provides plentiful commentary and artifacts that help you understand how Nantucket got to its current state. Some other cool things: the roof of the Whaling Museum has some of the best views of the historic downtown area, as it is one of the tallest buildings. Further, if you visit in winter time, admission to the museum will also let you see the Festival of Trees, a tradition on the island where various groups decorate Christmas trees with different themes for display. If you haven't been to the museum and you want to see the trees around Christmas, it really is a bargain to get admission and see both! "
