"The Victoria Palace was designed by the architect Duiliu Marcu, a graduate of the Higher School of Architecture in Bucharest, and built between 1937-1944. Located in Piața Victoriei, it served, in turn, as the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Council of Ministers, and currently as the headquarters of the Government of Romania.
The Victoria Palace, along with two other public edifices from the 1930s - the Higher School of War (now the "Carol I" National Defense University) and the C.F.R. Palace. (now the seat of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure), is part of an urban architectural ensemble created by Duiliu Marcu.
Construction of the Victoria Palace began in 1937 and was completed in 1944. In the same year, bombings caused major damage to the building which led to the resumption of work and its completion in 1952.
The construction was known until 1989 as the Council Palace by Ministers. In 1990 it regained its name of Victoria Palace and became the seat of the Romanian Government, and in 2004 it was classified as a historical monument."
