What people say

Nally Preseault
"For a long time, the further you traveled from Reykjavík, the worse your hotel options would get. Thankfully, that's not true anymore--or you would have been in trouble way out in Klaustur. Hótel Klaustur is a modern, eco-friendly hotel in Southeast Iceland. The two-story hotel has 57 rooms with mountain or river views. Its light-filled restaurant serves a breakfast buffet (included) in the morning and a seasonal, locally inspired menu at night. The bar has cozy nooks, a gas fireplace, and happy hour from 4-6 pm each night. Charging stations outside are ready for your electric rental car. Everyone who works here seems happy to help with suggestions and tips. While, best of all, the hotel is just a few miles from Fjaðrárglúfur (a massive canyon) and an easy day trip from Jökulsárlón (the famous glacial lagoon). This hotel is a great home base."
"Hótel Klaustur offers a perfect stay for anyone venturing to Vatnajökull Glacier or the surrounding area, it's approximately 1 hour drive from the starting point of the glacier hikes and extremely comfortable and clean so you can get a great nights sleep before your adventure continues. Service at the hotel is excellent and the breakfast was the best I ate in Iceland- so much choice and absolutely delicious -without a doubt a 5 star breakfast. The restaurant food was exceptional all round. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again. "

Active volcanoes. Dancing northern lights. Gushing geysers. Massive glaciers. Thermal hot springs. Thundering waterfalls. Iceland is the ultimate adventure destination. How have you not been here yet? It’s finally time. Start in the northernmost capital in the world. Reykjavik is a hip, modern city. Then start exploring the wild coastline, the sheep-filled countryside, the icy interior, and the peaceful islands. There are plenty of black-sand beaches, small fishing villages, turf-roofed houses, and epic hikes along the way. Just remember to pack layers. Sometimes, the Gulf Stream provides moderate temperatures. Other times, it’ll feel like you’re in the Arctic. Also don’t forget the long, dark winters and the 24-hour daylight during the short summers. If you take advantage of Icelandair’s free stopover program—a great excuse to visit Helsinki, Copenhagen, and even Paris—you can keep returning to discover which season you like best.
