"The most surreal place I've ever been to!
I highly recommend doing this track as at least an overnight hike. Take a tent and warm clothes and start walking early so that you still can enjoy the rest of the day in the valley!
The track starts about 20 minutes outside of Glenorchy, is 8.3 km one-way and leads uphill in the beginning, over rocks, roots, mud (if it has rained before), you cross streams and the track, depending on the state, can be quite challenging as soil is being washed away by the rain and you might have to climb a bit in some parts. The track itself was tiring for me because I couldn't take me eyes off the ground in order not to trip over roots or rocks.
After 4,5 hours we reached the valley and the views were just beautiful. If you keep on walking for another 30 minutes you will be able to catch the first glimpse of the glacier and this sight will leave you speechless.
Look for a nice spot to set up your tent and go off exploring, walking towards the glacier. The valley is just incredible and gorgeous. There's countless waterfalls everywhere and with the glacier at the end of the valley it was an unbelievable sight. It felt like being in another world, completely surreal.
If you have time, you can also explore some ice caves at the very end of the valley where the glacier is.
This is a place I can just highly recommend but please don't underestimate the track, take enough food and warm clothes because the nights are freezing and try to pack as light as possible. "
