"Marmorbroen is an arch bridge in Copenhagen. It is located in the extension of Ny Vestergade / Dantes Plads and leads this way over Frederiksholms Kanal to the riding track at Christiansborg Castle on Slotsholmen through two pavilions.
The marble bridge was designed by Nicolai Eigtved and built together with the first Christiansborg in the period 1739–1745. It is faced with sandstone with medallion decorations by the sculptor Louis-Augustin le Clerc and is covered with Norwegian marble. The marble bridge and the riding track are the only things preserved after the fire at Christiansborg in 1794.
It was originally the castle's main entrance and therefore it had to make an impression on the castle's visitors. Where it lands on Slotsholmen, it is flanked by two pavilions adorned with Christian VI and Sophie Magdalene's mirror monograms as well as sculptural work that will give the entrance area an architectural whole. Originally there was a large lattice gate fitted between the pavilions, but as it was made of iron it rusted over time. It was removed in the 1830s."

"This beautiful bridge and the two pavilions next to it are some of the few remains of the original Christiansborg Palace, which was built in 1745. The rest of the castle burnt down again only 49 years later (in 1794)."
