" Back in the days, between 1974 and 75 to be exact, Mekk Elek was streamed on TV to captivate kids across Hungary. In this puppet show, similar to Sesame Street, we are entertained by the main character who is supposedly a handyman. Throughout the many attempts, he does not seem to attain the tricks of any trade fully. The sign in Mekk Elek's hand refers to the former name of the square, formerly Moszkva ter.  You can take a look at the puppet show here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eVtl5lv9uk "

"ℹ️ INSIDER INFO: Mekk Elek is the main character of the Hungarian puppet film series from the 70s. The goat is holding a street sign ‘Moszkva Square’ referring back to the old name of the square, which is now Széll Kálmán Square. The meaning behind it, is that the character in the puppet series was always trying to fix things, however every time he turned out to be very incompetent. Now he’s holding a street sign with the old name."
"Located between the metro exit and Vérmező út, at the bottom of the steep stairs, is the statue of Elek Mekk, the handyman. It commemorates a a puppet series on Hungarian Television about the two left-handed goat, Master Mekk. Master Mekk holds a sign in his hand with the inscription "Moszkva tér" , referring to the fact that Széll Kálmán tér was Moskva tér between 1951 and 2011."
