NYC Christmas - 2022 Edition

New York is a wonderful pace to be a kid and has a lot to offer to children of all ages; amazing playgrounds, libraries, museums, theatres, beautiful community gardens, merry-go-rounds, cruises, parks, toy stores. There are endless possibilities! Some of the places included in this guide are old favorites. Some are hidden gems out of the beaten path. Ready to explore some of the wonders that await you and your children in NYC? 


This “3 days in NYC with your kids” guide will help you plan a stress-free family trip. It includes: 

• recommendations of the nearest places to grab a coffee, snack or meal;

• all the best activities in each area so you can plan your day quickly; all of them are walking distance or short distance using public transportation;

• the most interesting museums in the neighborhood;

Maybe you’re wondering about where to stay in NYC: I would suggest to find an hotel in Manhattan.

• The west side is charming. In the Village/Soho/Chelsea/Meatpacking you’ll find plenty of options, maybe not the cheapest ones. If you choose to stay a little bit more uptown, you’ll be able to find better deals and enjoy Central Park. 

• Midtown is sometimes more practical and convenient, but sometimes too crowded. 

In any case, I would suggest you not to go “too uptown”, to be able to visit Brooklyn without being too far away.

New York Public Library - Stephen A. Schwarzman Building

Patience and Fortitude, the pair of marble lions that stand proudly before the building at 5 Avenue and 42nd Street have captured the affection of New Yorkers and visitors from all over the world. Their nicknames changed over the decades. They were first called Leo Astor and Leo Lenox, after the NYPL founders John Jacob Astor and James Lenox. 

Do visit the building and the gift shop. And if you want to buy a souvenir for your kids the “Library Lion” will make them remember their trip here forever.

Go to the Rose Main Reading Room and admire the beautiful ceiling and architecture inside. Check out the Polonsky Exhibition of the New York Public Library's Treasures (FREE) and see Thomas Jefferson’s Copy of the Declaration of Indepedence + the Original Winnie the Pooh Bear.

The flagship library location is iconic fifth avenue. Be sure to explore the architecture inside, the reading room, and the Polonsky Exhibition of The New York Public Library’s Treasures, a free museum! 

Visit the New York Public Library: Visit the beautiful Beaux-Arts building and explore the stunning Rose Main Reading Room, one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.

This was on our path after St Patrick's and an impromptu stop. I highly recommend it. Beautiful architecture 

Free tours are here! The reading room is gorgeous, but you cant enter unless you are studying or on a tour.

If you go during the day, pop into the children's section to see the original Winnie the Pooh doll!

Free and open to the public. Stop in to admire the beautiful Beaux-Arts architecture.

One of the prettiest places to work and get inspired by art.
