"The best way to get a feel for the Mývatn landscape is a high panoramic view. Enter Vindbelgjarfjall. Vindbelgur Mountain sits on the lake's western shore. There's a small parking lot near Vagnbrekka farm. The 3.2-mile, out-and-back trail starts out flat, but quickly steepens. It's marked by little yellow stumps. You'll pass through small shrubs and rock fields as you ascend. In less than a half hour, you'll be rewarded with colorful views of the blue lake, green wetlands, and black volcanic formations. A nice introduction indeed."
