"It's a very long journey to Westfjords. Ferry Baldur cuts hours, depending on where you're going, off the drive. The ferry operates all year from Stykkishólmur (the north coast of the Snæfellsnes peninsula) to Brjánslækur (the south coast of the Westfjords) with a stop at Flatey (an island). The huge vessel--think of the rough sea crossing in the winter--can hold 49 vehicles and 280 passengers. It has a restaurant, WiFi, and, for summer days, a top deck to take in the stunning views (and perhaps a whale). Summer reservations are recommended well in advance."
