Dubai Dolphinarium

"Dubai Dolphinarium is a prominent indoor facility in the Middle East, specifically designed to provide a comfortable habitat for dolphins and seals, while also offering an engaging experience for visitors through live shows and interactive photo sessions. Located within Creek Park, close to Children’s City and the Oud Metha and Bur Dubai areas, the dolphinarium opened its doors on May 21, 2008, in collaboration with Dubai Municipality, and has since been supported by the Dubai government to educate the public about marine life and promote environmental conservation. Spanning 5,000 square meters (approximately 54,000 sq ft), the Dubai Dolphinarium accommodates around 1,250 spectators for its dolphin and seal shows. The facility includes a dedicated habitat area for the dolphins, featuring 600 cubic meters (160,000 US gallons) of seawater connected to the main arena pool, along with separate medical and seal pools to ensure the well-being of these marine mammals. Additional amenities include group and children's activities, birthday party arrangements, school field trips, a “swim with dolphins” experience, a mirror maze, a bird show, a restaurant offering kid-friendly meals, and a mini 5-D cinema. Home to bottlenose dolphins and Northern fur seals, Dubai Dolphinarium has faced some criticism from animal welfare advocates, particularly regarding the welfare of its marine inhabitants and the origins of the dolphins. Initially, concerns were raised about potential suffering and mortality among the dolphins, with some activists alleging that at least one dolphin had been captured from the wild. However, management has responded by asserting that the dolphins are third-generation individuals born in captivity, which they claim ensures their happiness and health compared to their wild counterparts. Despite facing backlash over various incidents, including a controversial video posted by a trainer that drew public condemnation for perceived unethical treatment of the dolphins, Dubai Dolphinarium remains a popular destination. It hosts numerous activities, including summer camps and autism awareness events, and celebrated its one millionth visitor in March 2012. With a dedicated staff of around 60, including trainers and support personnel, the facility continues to offer entertainment while promoting awareness of marine life."
