"Kalm Village is a refreshing departure from the typical coffee shop scene in Chiang Mai, offering much more than just a place for a caffeine fix. Located in the heart of the city’s Old City, Kalm Village is a craft-focused concept store, gallery, and community space. The Old City, with its rich historical heritage and remnants of 13th-century walls and gates, creates the perfect backdrop for this modern yet respectful development. Instead of the standard lush gardens and concrete structures, Kalm Village integrates thoughtfully into the urban fabric, maintaining a balance between the old and the new. The coffee shop on the ground floor has a relaxed, open atmosphere that invites visitors to linger. With a latte in hand, I wandered through the space, discovering a co-working area above. The shelves are stocked with books, magazines, and artwork, while warm tapestries and plush area rugs add a cozy touch. The natural light streaming through large glass windows provides spectacular views of the Old City, making the co-working space feel like a private library, an ideal place to focus or unwind. The experience is even more special thanks to the unique policy of removing shoes before entering the upstairs area, enhancing the feeling of comfort and tranquility. Beyond the coffee shop and co-working area, Kalm Village also features galleries showcasing a rotating selection of local art and cultural pieces. One gallery displays an impressive collection of textiles and jewelry from Asia, particularly from northern Thailand, providing a deep dive into the region's rich heritage. At the time of my visit, the upper galleries were hosting a ceramic exhibition by Thai artists, a testament to the vibrant local art scene. A standout feature of Kalm Village is the glass pavilion, a stunning architectural piece with a soaring gabled roof made from glazed panels, connecting visitors with the sky. The pavilion’s design cleverly blends modern glass with traditional Thai vernacular, bridging past and present in a way that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. On Sundays, the space transforms into a yoga studio, offering classes open to anyone who wants to join, further fostering a sense of community and well-being. Kalm Village was a delightful discovery, proving that even a simple coffee catch-up can reveal hidden gems. With its thoughtful design, inspiring art, and welcoming atmosphere, it’s become a perfect spot for remote work, relaxation, and creative exploration. I’m already planning my next visit to settle in for an afternoon of coffee, work, and more discoveries."
