Katz's Delicatessen, located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, is an iconic New York City institution famous for its traditional Jewish deli fare and bustling atmosphere. Established in 1888, Katz's has been serving up classic delicatessen dishes to generations of New Yorkers and visitors alike.
The deli is perhaps best known for its towering pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, piled high with thinly sliced meat and served on rye bread with mustard. Other popular menu items include matzo ball soup, knishes, and hot dogs, all prepared with the same dedication to quality and authenticity that has made Katz's a culinary landmark.
Stepping into Katz's Delicatessen is like stepping back in time, with its vintage decor and bustling dining room filled with locals and tourists alike. The atmosphere is lively and energetic, with the sounds of chatter and clinking dishes filling the air as diners enjoy their meals.
In addition to its renowned food, Katz's is also famous for its unique ordering system, where customers receive a ticket upon entering and must hand it to the cashier when they leave. This system, along with the deli's commitment to quality and tradition, has helped Katz's Delicatessen maintain its status as a beloved New York City institution for over a century.

"I know all about the hype.. originally opened in 1888. Harry Met Sally. Yeah yeah.
I think Katz's is a bit overrated by both tourists and locals who can't possibly hear about better Pastrami in other spots. However, I am all about experiences and waiting in a long line, with your ticket (DO NOT LOSE IT) to order some pastrami from the counter...is a New York City thing.
The Pastrami Sandwich is $25.95, and it's huge. You could easily share this with somebody else. They have nice thick pieces of pastrami, and I always feel a need to add some deli mustard.
I prefer Sarges for the taste and vibe. Katz's feels like a tourist trap, but I'd understand why you might choose it over Sarges if you're dead set on visiting. It is a truly New York "vibe". "

"Prepare for a long wait but it’s worth it. I’m being dramatic. The line was moving but it was intimidating when we first arrived.
The chefs were true to what you envision a NYC deli to be. Don’t approach their stall unless you know what you want or else you’ll be slowing them down.
I ordered the “pastrami sandwich with Swiss & Sauerkraut”. "
