"This is the only trail I’ve included that some might question as a “hike”, but I stand behind it as one of the best places to walk your puppers in the area! The marina is a launchpoint for all kinds of watersports, and we love to check out all of the boats and paddle boarders. Our pups love to wade in the water, chase driftwood, and romp around off-leash on the beach. (We are very careful to always maintain voice and sight control, however. Just be aware of how your dog interacts with other dogs before going for the off-leash experience). Sunbathing and relaxing here is fantastic during the high sun. But our favorite time to visit is during summer sunsets. Once you catch a glimpse of the vibrant colors and rising moon over the lake while your pupper romps around, you’ll be hooked! The beachline is a mix of rocks and sand, so be careful with your footing while walking. Additionally, be aware that this lake is VERY cold. If you let your dog swim, life vests are a smart way to prevent dangerous accidents. Difficulty Rating: Easy Popularity Rating: High Shadiness Factor: None -Trailhead: -Stats: 1.2 mi RT, 19 ft elevation gain -Getting there: Easy access from paved roads. -Parking: FREE and ample parking at the Dillon Marina. We like to park by the boat launch, and start this walk where the beach starts east of Marina Park. -Restrooms at the trailhead: Flush Toilets -Puppers: If you have a water-loving pup, this place is a paradise! Wading, swimming, dock-diving is all allowed and encouraged. Dogs are welcome to be off-leash at this beach. Doggie bags available at trailhead and at several points in the park. -Best time to visit: The marina is open in the summer, and depending on the snow pack and water height, the beach is really only exposed and welcoming June-October. Additionally, because of frequent afternoon thunderstorms, morning and sunset visits are encouraged. -Good to know: This is an extremely cold mountain lake, so know your pupper’s capacities! If they’re a swimmer, it’s best to limit the swimming, and/or have them wear a life vest. If you plan to paddle board or kayak from this location, life-vests are required! (For humans and pups). Also watch for flash afternoon thunderstorms, which can hit very quickly. -Add-ons: This area connects with the Dillon Reservoir Trail, an 18.5 mile paved multi-use path that circles the entire lake. 📍Summit County, Colorado is located on the ancestral homelands of the Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute) peoples"
