"A small Irish neighbourhood bar, with a big personality, Erin Rose is a hidden treasure just steps away from Bourbon Street. The large open windows give you a peek into this beloved haunt, as its wall-to-wall paraphernalia, shining neon signs, old vehicle parts and unusual trinkets beckon you in.
The bar has a strong Irish heritage and has been operational for decades creating many lasting memories, friendships and bonds within the community. No wonder Erin Rose is so popular with the locals!
With the large scale ‘Prescriptions’ sign above the bar, grab a seat and pick your medicine. They are known for their ‘Wake up and Live’ specials served from 10am – 2am every day. These include their famous ‘Frozen Irish Coffee’, ‘Best Bloody Mary in New Orleans’, ‘Champagne Mimosa’, ‘Refreshing Screwdriver’ and their warm and cosy ‘Hot Irish Coffee’. I got slightly hooked on the Frozen Irish coffee, as it’s exactly how I would imagine a frozen Baileys to taste (need I say any more?). You can even add a shot of Jameson to give it an extra kick! Oh and of course the Guinness flows freely until the wee hours.
As you would expect in a local dive bar there’s great conversation between the bar staff and the regulars, so feel free to join in and get a real feel for the New Orleans way of life.
Towards the back of the bar you will find the one and only Killer Po’boys, serving up their unique take on the city’s most traditional sandwich. When I visited their small seasonal menu offered fillings such as ‘Dark & Stormy Pork Belly’, ‘Black Beer Beef Debris’, ‘Seared Gulf Shrimp’ and ‘Roasted Sweet Potato’. Unfortunately, I didn’t get chance to try one, but from seeing the other patrons devouring them at the bar, it’s definitely on my list for next time.
When you are looking to escape Bourbon Street and need a change of pace, head to Erin Rose for its welcoming and friendly atmosphere and don’t forget to try the Frozen Irish coffee, trust me on this one! "
