What people say

"Gornji trg (Upper Square), as its name suggests, sits slightly elevated compared to the bustling Mestni trg (Town Square) and the charming, cafe-lined Stari trg (Old Square) in Ljubljana. Here's what you can expect from this quieter corner of Ljubljana's old town: Unlike its more vibrant neighbors, Gornji trg offers a peaceful atmosphere. It's a perfect spot to escape the crowds and enjoy a slower pace. The cobblestone streets and minimal traffic add to the tranquil charm. While smaller than Mestni trg, Gornji trg boasts its own architectural treasures. Here are some highlights: - Medieval Houses (Numbers 7 to 15): these houses, with their narrow side passages and doorways, offer a glimpse into Ljubljana's medieval past. Some passages were once used to dispose of waste, which would eventually be washed away by the river. - Pentagonal Tower: this tower, part of the complex housing Križanke Summer Theatre, boasts a rich history. It was originally a defensive tower and later served as a prison. Today, the tower occasionally hosts exhibitions, concerts, or theatrical performances - Historical Plaques: look for plaques on some buildings, offering insights into their history and past residents. - Sculptures Scattered Around: while not as prominent as in other squares, a few sculptures add artistic touches to Gornji trg.
