"The National Museum of Contemporary Arts has opened its gates in the renovated Fix Building in Kallirrois Avenue and welcomes loyal enthusiasts and new visitors alike to dive into the seductive world of contemporary art. The much anticipated opening took place on 31-10-2016, with the presence of the director, personnel and renowned artists as well as the press, highlighting the excitement of all contributors for the new home of the museum, as well as the upcoming exhibitions and events to be hosted. The National Museum of Contemporary Arts was originally established in 1997 its operation began in 2000. The Fix Building has always been the museum’s base, however the exhibitions were hosted in various places during the building’s restoration, such as the Athens Concert Hall, the Athens Conservatory etc. The permanent collection includes artefacts of major artists such as Chryssa, Gary Hill,Jannis Kounellis, Costas Tsoclis, Stephen Antonakos to name but a few while the museum’s main aim is not only to showcase significant works of art of Greek and foreign artists but also sensitize and educate the public on the context and aesthetics of contemporary art as well as promote and facilitate the scientific research on artistic matters."
