"Ban Jelačić Square (Trg Bana Jelačića) is the central square of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. It is named after Ban Josip Jelačić (1801–1859), a national hero of Croatia.
The square is located in the Upper Town (Gornji Grad), south of the Dolac Market at the intersection of Ilica Street to the west, Radićeva Street to the northwest, Jurišićeva Street to the east, and Gajeva and Praška Street to the south. It is the centre of Zagreb's pedestrian zone.
The equestrian statue in the centre of the square used to face north, against the Hungarian invaders. This statue was removed during the Second Yugoslav Republic, but in 1991 it was reinstated, this time facing south."

"This is the most massive square and it is the one everyone meets in day or night, it's named after a national hero. it was created at the foot of the settlements of Kaptola and Gradec. (big old history of Zagreb before it was Zagreb) anyway, the fountain in the square also has some cool old history so check it out."
