"The Church of the Holy Spirit is a Lutheran parish temple located in the historic center of the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. It dates from the end of the 13th century. It is therefore the oldest church in the city.
The first monastery in Copenhagen is a Franciscan convent founded in 1238, twelve years after the death of the famous founder of this mendicant order, Francis of Assisi.
King Christian I transformed the Franciscan hospice into a hospital abbey in 1469. Pope Sixtus IV approved his rule in 1474 under the order of the Hospitallers of the Holy Spirit, whose mother church was the Santo Spirito church in Rome.
The organ dates from 1879. It is the work of the organ builder Knud Olsen. It was restored and enlarged in 1986 by Marcussen & Son (Appenrade). It includes seventy-five registers."
