"Would highly recommend doing a walking tour of the Buddha Stupa and Pashupatinath Temple in one day. Guru walk is a free walking tour app that links you up with locals who are passionate about their culture and cities. I've used them many times before and they don't fail to disappoint. And if you're solo travelling, it's a way to meet people. Your guide can explain to you the symbolism of the stupa, why it's shaped the way it is, as well as explain many of the paintings and shrines around the stupa. Hopefully you'll get to hear monks chanting in the monastery! "

"I remember seeing this place in documentaries and I never thought I would actually get to see it. The stupa dates from 600AD and it is actually made out of gold. Although it is a Buddhist place, you will see many people from different cultures going around the stupa so you’re more than welcome to join. There are a number of coffee shops, narrow alleys, guesthouses and shopping areas. "
