"🇬🇧 Grand Central Terminal, often referred to simply as Grand Central Station, is a historic transportation hub and architectural marvel located in Midtown Manhattan. Opened in 1913, this iconic Beaux-Arts building serves as a bustling center of commuter activity, welcoming millions of travelers each year from near and far. Designed by architects Reed and Stem, along with the engineering firm Warren and Wetmore, Grand Central Terminal is renowned for its majestic Beaux-Arts architecture, including its iconic main concourse with its soaring celestial ceiling adorned with constellations. The terminal's grandeur extends to its elegant Vanderbilt Hall, opulent waiting rooms, and intricate Tiffany glass clock. Beyond its architectural splendor, Grand Central Terminal is a vital transportation hub, serving as the main terminal for Metro-North Railroad trains to and from the northern suburbs of New York City and Connecticut. It also houses numerous shops, restaurants, and food vendors, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. In addition to its role as a transportation hub, Grand Central Terminal is a cultural landmark, hosting events such as art exhibitions, music performances, and guided tours that showcase its rich history and architectural significance. "Grand Central Terminal, known from the Home Alone film series, arose out of the need to build a central railway station in what is now Midtown Manhattan. In the year 1871, Cornelius Vanderbilt, a great businessman of the time, created the Grand Central Depot for the New York Central & Hudson River. Due to rapid growth, the depot was rebuilt and renamed Central Station or Grand Central, with work being completed by 1902. Central Terminal was more than just a pretty facade. Behind its tall arches and elegant marble is a marvel of practical design and innovative engineering. The station not only looked like no other, it worked like no other, combining elegance with efficiency. The current structure, which I did not visit, was first opened to the public in 1913. New York is renowned as the city that never sleeps and has the city that is never still. Tourists, commuters, business visitors — New York is a tumultuous ballet of coming and going."
"This historic world-famous landmark in Midtown Manhattan is not simply a transportation hub — it’s also a shopping, dining, and cultural destination all under one magnificent roof. A must see for a first time visitor "
