"Churches in Greece are everywhere and Athens has a lot some of my favorites are these :
Agios Georgios Church (Lycabettus Hill) was built in the 18th century possibly on top of a temple dedicated to Zeus. If you visit Athens during Orthodox Easter, it would be a unique spot to experience Holy Saturday celebrations
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens (48-50 Mitropoleos), was completed in 1862 and constructed from building material from seventy abandoned or ruined churches. Inside you will find a marble chest that guards the ashes of Aghia Filothei and Patriarch Gregory V.
Kapnikarea Church (Ermou) was built around 1052, possibly on top of a temple dedicated to Athena.
Agia Dynami Church (15 Mitropoleos & Pendelis) was built in the 16th century A.D. on an altar of Hercules, giving the church's name "Dynami" meaning strength. Its murals depict mostly female saints, as it protects pregnant women. It is also situated above tunnels used to smuggle weapons during the Greek War of Independence.
Aghia Katerini Church in Plaka is a unique spot in Athens where you can see the combination of a Byzantine church and ancient temple pillars surrounded by neoclassical buildings and modern day apartments. "

"Located on Ermou Street in Plaka, this is one of the oldest churches in Athens. This Greek Orthodox church was built in the 11th century. It looks out of place, sitting among modern buildings and popular chain stores, as the city of Athens has grown up around it."
