"The church of Santi Michele e Gaetano, more often simply called San Gaetano, is one of the most important examples of Baroque style in Florence. The church dates back to the 11th century and was completely rebuilt in Baroque style by Matteo Nigetti in 1604.
The very suggestive, lively and scenic façade is the work of the Florentine architects Gherardo and Pier Francesco Silvani and seems to have been designed in imitation of Roman churches. The interior, consisting of a single nave, preserves a series of white marble sculptures that stand out scenically in the semi-darkness."
