"Holešovice used to be a center of production and trade; even in the first half of the 20th century, the town's slaughterhouse and markets operated here (which, after all, have remained here to this day), as well as steam mills, a brewery, various factories, and a busy cargo port. Today most of these industrial buildings do not serve their original purpose; many of them have been renovated or adapted and found a second life as apartments, office complexes, studios of young artists, designers and architects or cultural institutions.
