Dream Prague
"Nerudova Street was named after its most famous resident – Czech writer Jan Neruda. Visitors can see the poet’s house, called “At the Two Suns”, with a plaque in memory of Jan Neruda. Do not confuse Jan Neruda with another world-renowned poet, Pablo Neruda (from Chile) who was also a great writer. While Jan Neruda was also a poet, his writing has reached beyond poetry, he was a journalist and wrote short novels. Jan Neruda has been long recognized as one of the most outstanding figures of the 19th-century Czech literature. Jan Neruda mastered the art of the feuilleton, his columns were published regularly in the politically-liberal Národní listy (National Pages), and read widely by the masses. 📍 Location It's a long (steep!) street connecting the main gate of the castle with the Lesser Town (Malá Strana). Our recommended way is to begin at the top of the hill, Strahov Monastery, and make your descent on foot down to Lesser Town. 👌 Extra He is most famous for his cycle of short stories called: "Povídky malostranské (Tales of the Lesser Quarter)", a book from 1877 that features satirical stories about the Czech Bourgeois of the time and clear descriptions of the romantic Malá Strana setting -- where you are standing right now! You can pick up your own copy of "Povídky malostranské (Tales of the Lesser Quarter)" in Malá Strana independent bookstore we linked below: "Shakespeare & Sons". 😎 Vibe Quaint street with picturesque houses, small shops and cafés. Nearby ➕ Prague Castle ➕ Strahov Library. "

"Nerudova Street leads from Malostranské náměstí to the gates of Prague Castle. At its upper end, the Town Hall stairs connect. It was once the main road leading to the Castle, part of the Royal Road. It belongs to the most beautiful baroque streets in the city, there are a number of baroque palaces and many two-story houses with interesting facades. Historical portals of houses, ancient decorated doors and, above all, historical house signs are interesting."
