Parliament House

"The building complex known as the Parliament House (Riksdagshuset) in Stockholm was designed by architect Aron Johansson in a blend of Neoclassical and Baroque Revival styles. Construction took place between 1897 and 1905, following a design competition held in 1889, which Johansson won. Upon its inauguration, the Parliament House replaced the Old Riksdag Building (Gamla Riksdagshuset) located on Riddarholmen Island. The complex originally comprised two buildings: one for the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament) and the other for the Sveriges Riksbank (Swedish National Bank), both arranged in a semicircular layout. Following the transition from a bicameral to a unicameral legislature in 1971, and after the bank relocated, the building that once housed the Sveriges Riksbank was repurposed into the new Assembly Hall. During this period of renovation, the Parliament temporarily convened at Kulturhuset (House of Culture), situated south of Sergels Torg in central Stockholm. The plenary hall and the former second chamber, which is now utilized for committee meetings, reflect the evolving functions of the Parliament House while preserving its architectural integrity."
