Stockholm City Museum

"Stadsmuseet i Stockholm (until 2013 Stockholm City Museum) is a museum in Stockholm that inventories, documents, collects and presents material related to Stockholm's history. The museum is housed in Södra City Hall's former premises located at Ryssgården on Södermalm and displays permanent and temporary exhibitions. The building began to be erected in 1663, the drawings were made by the then city architect in Stockholm, Nicodemus Tessin d.ä. It was intended as a General Factory Office, a headquarters for international trade, but already in 1669 that period was over, and it was named in 1676 as the town hall building on Södermalm. The City Museum in Stockholm manages collections that include around 300,000 objects, 35,000 works of art, just over 4 million photographs and an extensive library and archive. In addition, the museum manages the Stockholm city's art collection of approximately 25,000 works of art, as well as the city's outdoor artworks in public places of approximately 400 works of art. The museum is tasked with making the collections available to the public. Admission is free."
