"Margarites is a small village near Rethymnon known for its pottery, which is a local tradition and has been widespread since Minoan times. Today, the settlement is one of the most important centers of pottery and ceramic art in Crete. It has 17 workshops, some of which give visitors the opportunity to watch experienced and skilled craftsmen create a wide variety of ceramics and imitations of ancient Minoan pottery.
In addition to ceramics, Margarites is home to one of Rethymnon's most important monuments, a late Minoan vault tomb dating to 1350. Ave. Cr., "home." It is a truly special building architecturally; a long sloping corridor leads to the circular chamber of the central vault, which is the main part of the tomb. In this grave, researchers found the bones of four adults and two children. According to the findings, they belonged to persons of higher social and religious hierarchy. If you find yourself in Margarites, be sure to visit the oldest church in the village - the Church of Saint Ioannis "Theologos". Several Arkady heroes are buried in the churchyard. The village has a strong revitalizing energy and the most amazing views."
