The Banshee Labyrinth

"Known as Scotland’s most haunted pub, The Banshee Labyrinth is an institution in Edinburgh’s alternative scene. The subterranean cavern of chambers where once part of the underground vaults – a sordid underworld filled with illegal activities and disease-ridden slums, which are now said to be some of Edinburgh’s most haunted spaces! On the opposite end of the monetary spectrum, Lord Nicol Edwards who was once the richest man in Edinburgh lived just next door, but he gained notoriety and a dark reputation, with harrowing reports of him abusing his wife and torturing suspected witches in a dungeon located underneath his house. No wonder, with such a dark history linked to this location, so many people have recounted supernatural sightings. The spirit of the wailing Banshee is the one people say to watch out for though, as it is thought to be the soul of a woman who Lord Nichol tortured. Terrifying screams and wails have been heard by pub goers with one workman reporting he saw a woman crying into her hands, before she lifted her head to reveal a face with no eyes, whilst giving out a blood curdling cry. Amongst the well-stocked bars, pool rooms and cinema, keep an eye out for their other well-known resident ghosts including ‘The Watcher’, described as a faceless man who lurks in the shadows wearing a long black coat and a piratical tricorne hat. Plus, little Molly who disappeared in 1841 and is said to be buried in an old chimney within the building and finally there’s ‘Ole Jock’ who is thought to haunt the Ladies toilets! The pub is full of gruesome history and ghostly tales and it’s one I would whole heartedly recommended visiting… but only if you dare!
