"Capped by a tower above the portico's pediment, this limestone Greek Revival structure, completed in 1859, sits upon a mound above a park setting with statuary on the side and one end facing the Legislative Plaza—the only side seen by most visitors.
My obligatory visit to the Tennessee State Capital building was underwhelming. Compelled to walk from the Public Square, the route wasn't particularly inviting. Though the capital is surrounded by a park, I was disappointed by the parking lot surrounding this historic structure, as well as one side's unkept embankment in desperate need of weeding.
To allow the capital to be a more inviting, connected centerpiece, the site needs underground parking, replaced with landscaping and pathways that link to the grounds and adjacent plaza. Still, go see it for yourself."

"A registered National Historic Landmark, the Tennessee State Capitol building is among the oldest working capitols in the country.
Home to the offices of the governor, the Tennessee General Assembly, and the historic Capitol Library, the Tennessee State Capitol is open weekdays from 9:00am - 4:00pm.
Visitors can enjoy either a guided tour or self-guided tour for free. For groups of 10 or more people or for special accommodations for mobility or language translation, please contact the capitol in advance to plan your visit. "
