"The Blue Pools are a short but iconic NZ hike right off the side of the road as you drive from Lake Hawea Towards Fox Glacier. This is located in Mt. Aspiring National Park -- an area worth exploring! When we went there were repair efforts on the bridge, so they "closed" the entire track. However, you can easily walk across the creek that the bridge crosses which is only about 1 foot deep. We weren't alone as a handful of other people had the same idea. If you have two hours to spare, don't miss place! We stopped at the second bridge, enjoyed the sun, and jumped off of the bridge. The water is ICY cold but super refreshing. "

"NOTE: The bridges on this hike are currently closed, so if you hike this, you have to do some river crossings that can go up to your thigh/waist! The water colour in the Blue Pools is unlike anything we have seen before! It's a gorgeous turquoise blue color if you manage to see it during the middle of the day, so we would recommend only really checking out this spot BEFORE 2pm!!! If you’re feeling brave you can take a dip in the glacial water, it’s freezing even in summer, but it will leave you feeling invigorated for the rest of the day!"
"The blue pools are a 1 hour drive from Wanaka and the short track of 3 km (return) takes you through native forest, over a swing bridge and a boardwalk until you reach the Blue Pool bridge from which you have great views on those glacier water pools with this striking blue colour and crystal clear waters. Make sure to take anti-sandfly spray as they can be terrible here. "
