"High Tatras is a beautiful mountain range with so much to do it would need its own guide.
But here is some info to get you started:
- Definitely give yourself at least 3 days here
- Pick one of the small resort villages in the mountains as a base and explore from there. You can first take a bus or train to Poprad (there is also an international airport there) and then travel to your resort destination (popular ones are for example Stary Smokovec or Tatranska Lomnica)
- Use local buses, funiculars and funicular trains to get around
- There are many activities you can do: hiking, walking, water sports, winter sports, glacial mountain lakes, museums and more
- Make sure to stay alert when in the mountains and learn what to do in case you encounter a bear. Encounters are not frequent, but can happen, so it's best to be prepared. Do a quick Google search before your visit to check whether there's been bear sightings in the area recently. The word for a bear is "medved" so just look up "medved Vysoke Tatry" and click on the News tab on Google."
