"The Maastunnel was constructed between 1937 and 1942. It is the oldest submerged tunnel in the Netherlands, connecting the banks of the Nieuwe Maas River in Rotterdam. At the time of its construction, it was also the longest underwater tunnel in Europe.
Today, the tunnel provides passage for car, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic. It was renovated and restored between 2017 and 2020, at which time it was declared a national monument. "
